After rumors that two of her eight children had been expelled were leaked, Kate Gosselin of TLC’s Kate Plus Eight is once again clearing up any confusion about why Collin and Alexis are no longer in school, and revealing what led her to make the difficult decision.First things first–Collin and Alexis were not “expelled.”
“The school would never use that word,” Gosselin told People magazine. “[Collin and Alexis] were not expelled. [The school] did not feel like they could meet their needs anymore, so it was decided they should leave, for now.”
Since leaving their Pennsylvania private school, Collin and Alexis, both 6-years-old, have been working with a private tutor at home, who teaches them an “identical curriculum” as the one their brothers and sisters are receiving, until they’re ready to go back.
According to Kate, the kids were in need of a break to work through academic and emotional issues, as they were having trouble dealing with her divorce from their father, Jon Gosselin.
“They’ve been the ones to verbalize the most that they miss Daddy,” says Kate. “I could see that they’re the ones struggling the most.
“[Collin] was upset and saying things out of frustration–he’d crumple his papers and throw them on the floor,” Kate explains. “Alexis was angry in a different way. She didn’t want to sit still. She’d get up and want to run around.”
Despite the difficulties, Kate says that in general, the kids are doing well, and she’s doing what she can to keep things that way.
“I’ve kept the stability, the income–everything that they know and love–I’ve come through on that,” says Kate. “I am doing what my kids need me to do. That’s really what matters.”
